About me

Leah (Lydia) Jayson (BA, MSc, RCSLT, HCPC)

I am a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with experience working with children and young people from nursery to college.

I love working with children and young people to develop their speech, language and verbal and non-verbal communication skills. This helps students understand what people say to them, and it helps them express themselves.

I help children and young people by carrying out assessments and diagnosing communication difficulties, and by providing therapy and ongoing support. I also work closely with school staff and parents by giving support, advice and training.

I am based in North London.

I am registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). I have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

What is SLCN?

SLCN, or speech, language and communication needs, describes difficulties with aspects of communication including the skills for focusing attention on the person speaking, verbal and non-verbal communication, understanding what someone else is saying and expressing a person’s own thoughts, feelings and opinions.

7% of 5 year olds have SLCN.

Communication skills are key for accessing education and achieving educational potential, and they are key for developing and maintaining relationships.

How can SLT help?

Speech and Language Therapists can support children and young people by working with the child or young person directly as well as with families and other professionals.

Working directly with children and young people

A Speech and Language Therapy assessment helps the individual and their support network understand their communication strengths and difficulties, helping them understand why they find certain tasks or activities easy or difficult, and set personalised goals

Speech and Language Therapy intervention works towards personalised goals by developing useful skills and strategies in a fun and engaging way.

I can carry out SLT assessment and intervention at the client’s education setting, their home, or online.

Working with others

As part of assessment, I speak to families, teaching staff and other relevant professionals to gain a full picture of an individual’s communication skills.

I carry out Speech and Language Therapy directly with the child or young person, or indirectly by providing education and training on SLCN, helpful communication strategies and implementing therapy activities.

Training packages

I can provide training and workshops for parents and for school staff.
